The Supreme Court has rejected a petition filed by Leena Paulose, wife of alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar.
The petition challenged the Delhi High Court's decision to adjourn her bail appeal in the ₹ 200-crore extortion case.
A vacation bench comprising Justices PV Sanjay Kumar and Augustine George Masih clarified that requests for expediting proceedings in the case would not be entertained.
"Special Leave Petition is dismissed. Pending applications shall also stand dismissed," the bench stated in its order passed on June 14.
Ms. Paulose filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) against the Delhi High Court's May 20 order, which postponed her bail plea until July. The bench observed that her plea was initially submitted to the High Court on May 14, with a notice subsequently issued on May 20.
"You have been in prison for two years and eight months, as soon as you come to court, you require an order," the top court observed.
As the counsel representing Ms Paulose requested the top court for expedited proceedings, the bench said, "Not for us to arrange the board of the High Court."
According to the prosecution, Mr. Chandrashekhar and his wife, Leena Paulose, purportedly operated an organized crime syndicate along with their associates since 2013. Their alleged objective was to achieve financial gain through deceitful practices and extortion.
Both Mr. Chandrashekhar and his wife were arrested by the Delhi Police in September 2021 in connection with a case involving fraud. They are currently in judicial custody.
