SC directs Uttar Pradesh Govt. to issue guidelines on Mujaffarnagar slapping incident

In a recent development, the District Basic Education Officer presented an affidavit in the Supreme Court on Monday regarding the controversial slapping incident involving the principal of Neha Public School in Khubbapur village. The incident, where Trupta Tyagi slapped a Class 1 student in front of others, gained widespread attention after a video circulated on August 25th.

The affidavit detailed the steps taken to address the education of the affected child, ranging from admission to a CBSE-affiliated school and the depositing of fees to the provision of uniforms and books. The Supreme Court, taking cognizance of the matter, directed the state government to issue guidelines preventing the recurrence of such incidents. The court is set to resume the case on January 12th.

Responding to the incident, Tushar Arun Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, filed a petition in the Supreme Court. Subsequently, the court ordered counseling for the affected child and mandated admission to a school recognized by the CBSE. As a result, the student was admitted to Class 2 at Sharaden School in the city, with commuting expenses fixed at Rs. 200.

A research team from Mumbai also conducted a three-day observation, comparing the student's old school with the new one. Counseling sessions were additionally carried out at the student's home.

BSA Shubham Shukla, the Basic Shiksha Adhikari, appeared in the Supreme Court on Monday, submitting an affidavit confirming the admission of the student to a reputable CBSE school. Information about transportation expenses and related costs was provided, emphasizing the actions taken so far. During the hearing, the Chief Secretary of the Basic Education Department was connected online, and the Supreme Court emphasized the need for the state government to issue strict guidelines to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, ensuring a safeguard against future events of a similar nature.
