SC Designates Eight Retired High Court Judges, Including Former Acting Chief Justice, as Senior Advocates

The Supreme Court of India has conferred the designation of Senior Advocate upon eight retired High Court judges, including a former Acting Chief Justice.

The following former judges have been conferred the senior gown:

  • Justice AM Babu, former judge, High Court of Kerala

  • Justice Gudiseva Shyam Prasad, former judge, High Court for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

  • Justice M Venugopal, former judge, Madras High Court

  • Justice Mungeshwar Sahoo, former judge, Patna High Court

  • Justice Prakash Naik, former judge, Bombay High Court

  • Justice Shashikant Gupta, former judge, Allahabad High Court

  • Justice T Raja, former Acting Chief Justice, Madras High Court

  • Justice Vivek Puri, former judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana.

 
Following a full court meeting on August 14, 2024, the Supreme Court's Committee for the designation of Senior Advocates made the decision to confer the title on 39 lawyers, including 10 women. Additionally, eight retired High Court judges, one of whom was a former Acting Chief Justice, were also designated as Senior Advocates on the same day.
