Supreme Court Committee has designated former Delhi High Court judges Justices Mukta Gupta and Najmi Waziri as senior advocates.

The decision was reached during a meeting convened by the Chief Justice of India and other Supreme Court judges on October 16.

Justice Gupta was initially appointed as an additional judge to the Delhi High Court on October 23, 2009, and later confirmed as a permanent judge on May 29, 2014. She retired from her judicial position in June of this year.

As a government counsel, Gupta prosecuted several prominent criminal cases, including those involving the murder of Jessica Lal, the murder of Naina Sahni, the murder of Nitish Katara, the criminal cases related to the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament, and the 2000 terrorist attack on the Red Fort in Delhi.

As a judge, she presided over several politically significant cases, including a case involving television presenter Arnab Goswami for defaming Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and a case related to the conviction of a Pakistani national for conspiring to commit terrorism in India. In October 2020, Gupta declined to provide relief to the secretary of the Indian Supreme Court Bar Association after he was suspended. This suspension came about because he had attempted to interfere with a resolution passed by the Association, which criticized former Supreme Court judge Arun Mishra for violating judicial protocol and praising the Prime Minister in a public speech.

On the other hand, Justice Waziri earned the nickname "the green judge" for his notable efforts in promoting environmental conservation. Through his orders and decisions, he played a significant role in facilitating the planting of hundreds of thousands of trees in different areas of Delhi.

Justice Waziri also presided over cases involving civil law during his nearly ten-year tenure as a judge. His judgments in this domain were notable and made a significant impact in the field of civil law.
