Today, the Supreme Court declined to consider a petition seeking guidelines to prevent politicians from exploiting national icons and freedom fighters for their own personal benefits.

The division bench of Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta asserted that the petition appeared to be politically motivated, aimed at targeting a specific individual.

The Bench remarked, "Why has this Court become a political arena? Your petition indicates that you are solely targeting someone." Subsequently, the petitioner decided to withdraw the plea.

During the proceedings, the Bench was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) that raised objections to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's use of images of the late Bhagat Singh and Dr. BR Ambedkar as backdrops during political addresses.

The petitioner, a professor at the Indian Institute of Information Technology in Sonepat, sought guidelines aimed at preventing politicians from exploiting national icons and freedom fighters for personal gain.

The petitioner submitted that the misuse of images of freedom fighters by Kejriwal and his wife prompted the instant litigation, as it diminishes the significance of martyrs.
