The Supreme Court Collegium, on August 30, 2024, recommended the transfer of Justice Shamim Ahmed from the Allahabad High Court to the Madras High Court. Previously, on August 21, the collegium had suggested this transfer for the "better administration of justice."
Despite Justice Ahmed's subsequent request for reconsideration the following day, the collegium found no merit in the request and decided not to reconsider its decision.
Notably, the transfer decision aligns with a widely publicized incident that allegedly involved Justice Shamim Ahmed.
On August 21, a video emerged showing a violent altercation allegedly involving the judge’s family and another individual following a car collision. The footage, which quickly went viral, purportedly shows the judge’s son aggressively confronting the other driver, escalating into a physical fight. Allegedly, a reporter who was filming the incident was also attacked during the altercation.
Justice Shamim Ahmed completed his law degree at Allahabad University and was enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh on April 17, 1993. Throughout his legal career at the Allahabad High Court, he practiced in diverse areas of law, including Civil, Constitutional, Service, Labour, Company, and Criminal law. He also served as central government counsel in the High Court from August 4, 2004, until his elevation to the bench, where he was later appointed as an Additional Judge.
