SC Collegium Recommends Three Advocates for Delhi HC

The Supreme Court Collegium on Wednesday proposed the appointment of three advocates as judges of the Delhi High Court. The recommended advocates are:

  1. Ajay Digpaul;
  2. Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar;
  3. Shwetasree Majumder.

According to the resolution, on October 25, 2023, the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, in consultation with the two senior-most colleagues of the High Court, recommended the names of the aforementioned advocates for appointment as judges of the High Court.

"For the purpose of assessing the merit and suitability of the above candidates for elevation to the High Court, we have scrutinized and evaluated the material placed on record. We have also perused the observations made by the Department of Justice in the file," the resolution passed by the Supreme Court Collegium stated.

The Collegium deemed all three advocates suitable for appointment as judges and recommended them accordingly. Currently, the Delhi High Court operates with 39 judges, against a sanctioned strength of 60.
