The Supreme Court Collegium has proposed the appointment of nine Additional Judges from the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad to be made permanent Judges of the same court. The judges recommended are:
(i) Justice Syed Qamar Hasan Rizvi,
(ii) Justice Manish Kumar Nigam,
(iii) Justice Anish Kumar Gupta,
(iv) Justice Nand Prabha Shukla,
(v) Justice Kshitij Shailendra,
(vi) Justice Vinod Diwakar,
(vii) Justice Prashant Kumar,
(viii) Justice Manjive Shukla, and
(ix) Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal
The Supreme Court Collegium issued a resolution today, noting that on May 28, 2024, the High Court's Collegium unanimously recommended the appointment of the aforementioned Additional Judges as permanent Judges. The Chief Minister and the Governor of Uttar Pradesh have also endorsed this recommendation.
Accordingly, in line with the Memorandum of Procedure, Supreme Court judges familiar with the workings of the Allahabad High Court were consulted to evaluate the suitability of the aforementioned Judges for permanent appointment.
Additionally, a Committee comprising two Supreme Court judges, established by the Chief Justice of India as per the Supreme Court Collegium's Resolution dated October 26, 2017, reviewed the judgments delivered by these Additional Judges.
To determine the merit and suitability of the aforementioned Additional Judges for permanent appointment, the Collegium thoroughly reviewed and evaluated all relevant materials on record. This included the opinions of the consulted colleagues and the reports provided by the Judgment Assessment Committee.
After carefully considering all aspects of the proposal, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that the nine Additional Judges of the High Court be appointed as permanent Judges.
