SC Collegium recommends Justice Robin Phukan of Gauhati High Court to be made permanent

Yesterday, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of an additional judge of the Gauhati High Court, Justice Robin Phukan, as a permanent judge of that High Court.

As per the Collegium resolution, the Gauhati High Court Chief Justice and two other senior-most judges had, on March 23, recommended that Justice Phukan be made permanent.

Last month, file from the Department of Justice was received by the Supreme Court Collegium.

Chief Ministers of Assam, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh and the Governors of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh concurred with the recommendation.

Notably, the resolution quoted at some length the report of the Collegium's Judgment Evaluation Committee, which said the judge's judgments are well articulated and well structured, have issues answered with reasoning, duly consider all case laws and material, follow appreciation of circumstantial evidence and sentencing, are clear, lucid and have clarity.
