The three judicial officers are:

R Poornima;

M Jothiraman; and

Augustine Devadoss Maria Clete.

According to the Collegium's resolution, a Supreme Court judge with knowledge of the Madras High Court's affairs was consulted to evaluate the candidates' fitness and suitability.

The resolution highlighted that elevating Augustine Devadoss Maria Clete would improve minority representation on the High Court Bench. Additionally, the Collegium provided reasons for not considering some other senior judicial officers for elevation.

"While considering the above proposal, we have also taken note of the fact that the above proposal involves non-recommendation of some senior judicial officers. Cogent reasons have been recorded by the Collegium of the High Court for not recommending their names. We are, therefore, in agreement with the High Court Collegium for overlooking them," the resolution said.

As of September 1, the Madras High Court was operating with 62 judges out of a sanctioned strength of 75, resulting in 13 vacancies.
