Today, a Mumbai court convicted Sanjay Raut, a leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), in a defamation case brought forth by Medha Somaiya, the wife of BJP leader Kirit Somaiya. The Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Mazgaon sentenced Raut to 15 days in prison and imposed a financial penalty.

In her complaint, Somaiya accused Raut of making unfounded and defamatory statements about her and her husband, alleging their involvement in a ₹100 crore scam related to the construction and maintenance of public toilets under the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation's jurisdiction.
