The Bombay High Court has received a plea from the family of Anuj Thapan, who tragically passed away while in police custody after being arrested in connection to the shooting incident near Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's residence. They are requesting a CBI investigation into his demise.

Despite the police asserting that Thapan took his own life while in custody, his mother, Rita Devi, has filed a petition in the High Court, alleging foul play and asserting that he was murdered.

Devi has filed a plea, scheduled for future hearing, requesting the High Court to instruct the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate her son's death.

The petition claimed that Thapan had been subjected to physical assault and torture while in police custody. Additionally, it requested the High Court to order the police to provide CCTV footage from both the police station and the lock-up where Thapan was detained.

The petitioner sought the preservation of call data records (CDR) of police officials involved in investigating the firing incident, spanning from April 24 to May 2. Additionally, they requested directives for a new post-mortem examination in Thapan's case.

Four individuals, namely Thapan, Sonu Bishnoi, and the alleged shooters Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta, have been apprehended in relation to the firing incident. Meanwhile, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi have been identified as wanted suspects, according to the police.

Thapan, who was implicated in providing firearms and ammunition for the firing incident, was apprehended on April 26 in Punjab along with Sonu Bishnoi. They were both placed in police custody until April 30. Additionally, the police applied provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA) to the case.

On April 29, the police presented all four accused, including Thapan, before a special court, which extended their police custody until May 8. However, on May 1, Thapan was discovered deceased in the lock-up restroom of the crime branch at the commissionerate complex in Crawford Market.

On April 14, two motorbike-borne persons opened fire outside Salman Khan's residence in Bandra area of Mumbai. Gupta and Pal were later arrested from Gujarat.
