Borivali, August 1, 2023: 

In a shocking incident on Monday, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, Chetan Singh (33), allegedly opened fire on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express, resulting in the death of four individuals, including his senior officer. The accused was remanded to police custody until August 7, 2023, after an order was passed by Magistrate Shivdutt Malikarjun Patil at the Metropolitan Magistrates Court in Borivali.

The distressing event took place at approximately 5 am when the train was near Palghar Railway station, just outside Mumbai. According to reports, Singh allegedly fired 12 rounds from his automatic service rifle, first killing his senior sub-Inspector (ASI) Tikaram Meena (57), a tribal officer, before targeting the passengers.

The identities of two of the passengers killed have been confirmed as Asgar Abbas Ali (48) and Abdul Kadar Mohamed Hussain Bhanpurwala (64). However, the third passenger's identity is yet to be ascertained.

The authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the heinous act, and investigations are ongoing. It remains unclear why Singh resorted to such extreme violence against his senior and innocent passengers.

During the proceedings at the Metropolitan Magistrates Court, the media was not allowed to witness the hearing, possibly to avoid any potential interference with the legal process or to safeguard sensitive information related to the case.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the railway community and the general public, highlighting concerns over the safety and security of passengers on trains.
