Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, a retired Supreme Court judge of India, has been appointed as a member of the Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC).

The BICC, established under Bahrain's "Team Bahrain" program, aims to attract private sector investment by providing a specialized forum for resolving commercial disputes.

Justice Kaul is one of nine members appointed to the newly constituted court by Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, as reported by The Indian Express. Notable arbitrator Jan Paulsson will serve as the president of the BICC, with former British judge Sir Christopher Greenwood as vice president.

Born on December 26, 1958, Justice Kaul completed his schooling at Modern School, New Delhi, and earned a degree in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, in 1979. He pursued his LLB at Delhi University's Campus Law Centre and enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in 1982. By 1987, he had become an Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court, and in 1999, he was designated a Senior Advocate.

Justice Kaul held significant legal roles, including serving as Senior Counsel for the Delhi High Court and Delhi University and advising the Union of India and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

He was appointed an additional judge of the Delhi High Court in 2001 and became a permanent judge in 2003. Subsequently, he served as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Madras High Court.

On February 17, 2017, he was elevated to the Supreme Court of India, where he served until his retirement in December 2023.
