Rescued missing girl: Mother declines custody due to pregnancy

The Delhi High Court has sent a minor girl to a shelter home after her mother refused to take custody of her following her two-month disappearance, due to the girl being six weeks pregnant.

A panel consisting of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Shalinder Kaur has ordered the city police to transport the girl to the 'Nirmal Chhaya' shelter home located in Hari Nagar, the national capital.

The high court considered a petition filed by the girl's mother, who was requesting the police authorities to locate and present her daughter. The girl had been missing since September, and there were suspicions that she had run away with a boy.

The petitioner informed the high court that the girl had been enticed by a boy from their neighborhood who engaged in a physical relationship with her and allegedly created inappropriate videos. A case against this boy was registered back in September.

On November 3, the police informed the court that they had successfully located the girl, and her statement had been officially recorded before a magistrate. During her appearance before the court, the girl revealed that she was six weeks pregnant. In the presence of the bench, she expressed her desire to be reunited with her parents.

Nevertheless, the girl's parents informed the court that this wasn't the first instance in which their minor daughter had run away or become pregnant. They expressed their reluctance to take her back to their home.

The bench noted, "Since the victim girl has already been recovered by respondent no. 1/ State, hence, the prayer made in the present writ petition stands satisfied. However, since the petitioner has refused to take the custody of her minor girl who is six weeks pregnant, in the interest of justice, this court directs woman sub-inspector Sonia, who is present from police station Bharat Nagar, to take the minor girl to Nirmal Chhaya, Jail Road, New Delhi." Therefore, the court ordered the girl to be placed in the care of the Nirmal Chhaya shelter home due to the refusal of her mother to take custody.
