Recently, the Rajasthan High Court summoned both the central and state governments to provide detailed affidavits outlining the current measures in place to regulate the production of tablets and syrups containing psychotropic substances, aiming to control their unregulated manufacturing.
Additionally, the court requested information regarding any existing mechanisms governing the distribution of these tablets and syrups to dealers, distributors, and retail pharmacists to ensure proper regulation.
During a bail application hearing on Saturday, the issue arose when Justice Farjand Ali took note of a commercial quantity of medicinal drugs allegedly seized from the petitioner. Justice Ali expressed worry regarding the extensive sale and consumption of tablets, medicinal drugs, and syrups containing psychotropic substances.
The court raised concerns about the unregulated operations of city drugstores and urged the identification of sources involved in illegal distribution. It highlighted the lack of comprehensive investigations leading to the origins of the trade, despite the arrests and detentions of drugstore employees and owners.
The bench scheduled the hearing for January 22 and instructed officials to create a transparent platform for uploading prescriptions issued by doctors.
