Raj High Court to get 9 new judges soon

The Ministry of Law, Government of India, has given consent for the appointment of nine new judges in the Rajasthan High Court of which three are from the Advocates quota and 6 are from the judiciary quota. The appointment warrant of these nine new judges would be issued soon.

The names which complete the list from the Advocates quota are Additional Advocate General Ganesh Ram Meena, Advocate Anil Upman from Jaipur, and Advocate Nupur Bhati from Jodhpur.

With the clearance of these names, history would be created that it would be for the first time in the history of any High Court to have 2 couples as judges of any High Court service at the same time. It would also be for the first time that both husband and wife would be elevated to the post from Advocates Quota. Nupur Bhati is the wife of present sitting judge Pushpender Singh Bhati.

Justice Mahendar Goyal and Justice Shubha Mehta (Spouse) are presently serving as judges in Rajasthan High Court.

The Judicial officer who would be elevated to the chair are Rajendra Prakash Soni, Ashok Kumar Jain, Yogendra Kumar Purohit, Bhuwan Goyal, Praveer Bhatnagar and Ashutosh Kumar.

Most of these names have been cleared by the Supreme Court collegium in November 2022 whereas the name of AAG Ganesh Ram Meena was recommended earlier by the collegium.

Presently there are 26 judges working in the Rajasthan High Court against the sanctioned strength of 50 judges. The appointment of these nine judges would make the tally 35 after a long period of time. After the central Government approves the name of T. Raja from Tamilnadu High Court to Rajasthan, the strength would be 36.
