Raj Court Issues Notice Claiming Ajmer Dargah Was Built Over Shiva Temple

Recently, Ajmer Court issued a notice to the defendants in a civil suit alleging that the Ajmer Dargah in Rajasthan was constructed over a Shiva temple. The suit seeks to declare the site as the "Bhagwan Shri Sankatmochan Mahadev Virajman Temple."

Civil Judge (Junior Division) Man Mohan Chandel passed the order, scheduling the next hearing for December 20.

The suit, filed by Hindu Sena President Vishnu Gupta through advocate Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh, demands the removal of the Dargah Committee from the premises. It also requests a survey of the site by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

The Ajmer Dargah is renowned as the tomb of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. According to the plea, the roof design at the main entrance gate resembles Hindu architectural elements, suggesting that the site may have originally been a temple.

"The materials and the style of these chatrees plaintly betray their Hindu origin. Their excellent surface carving is unfortunately hidden from view of coats of colour and whitewashing, which can showcases its true identity and reality after its removal."

The argument further asserts that there is no evidence to suggest that the Ajmer Dargah was built on vacant land.

On the contrary, historical records indicate the presence of a Shiv temple and Jain temples at the site, where Hindu devotees actively worshipped their deities.

Accordingly, the suit seeks directives from the Union government to rebuild the Bhagwan Shri Sankatmochan Mahadev Temple at the disputed property.
