R. Venkatramani, New Attorney General of India

Senior Advocate of Supreme Court R. Venkatrmani has been appointed the new Attorney General of India. He would assume the charge of the office of the Attorney General of India on 01st October, 2022. The President of India has issued a notification in this regard in which it has been stated that he is appointed Attorney General of India for the next three years.

The Term of the present Attorney General KK Venugopal who is 91 years old, is coming to an end on 30th September, 2022. The Central Government had given him an extension of three months in June this year. Recently he had expressed his unwillingness for a further extension citing his health reasons. The central Government has given this offer to Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi but he refused to accept this offer. Rohatgi was in the office of AG from 2014 to 2017 and then KK Venugopal was appointed to the post for three years. 

R. Venkatramanai had been the senior penal advocate for the Central Government and he has great experience in Indirect Tax cases. In 2010 h was appointed as a member of the Law Commission of India and he had been working as a Senior Advocate for the State of Andhara Pradesh and Tamilnadu.

Finance Ministry, Rail Ministry, and Health and Family Ministry have also availed his services on a number of occasions. He is also a Life member of the Indian Society of International Law. He has written many books which include Book based on International Institute of Human Rights Society, Justice of Justices O. Chinnapa Reddy, Book on Torts etc.
