Punjab & Haryana High Court adopts Hybrid hearings for five benches

The Punjab & Haryana High Court has implemented a hybrid hearing system for five of its benches. In the case list, virtual communication links for hybrid hearings are now available for Courtrooms 5, 69, 54, 22, and 19.

As per the attached note with the cause list, there will be a designated email address for the submission of requests for hearing cases via Video Conferencing in all the Courts.

This decision was prompted by a recent directive from the Supreme Court, which required the Registrar Generals of all High Courts to provide affidavits indicating whether they are permitting the continuation of virtual hearings. Additionally, the Court instructed them to specify the reasons if the option of hybrid hearings had been discontinued.

The direction was issued by a bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud during the hearing of a petition. The petitioner in this case, Sarvesh Mathur, who represented themselves, raised concerns that the Punjab and Haryana High Court had completely ceased virtual hearings. They pointed out that while virtual hearings were accessible during the COVID pandemic, they have now been discontinued.
