Yesterday, President Droupadi Murmu praised the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, for delivering his speech in Hindi while addressing the inaugural event for the new building of the Jharkhand High Court.

While appreciating, she said other judges will also follow the example set by CJI DY Chandrachud and urged him to deliver his speeches in Hindi in the future.

She also urged authorities to make justice more accessible, especially in a state like Jharkhand which uses a variety of languages. She praised the Supreme Court for making its judgments available in different languages.

The President said she is glad to see that several steps have been taken to make the justice delivery system more accessible and inclusive, especially for women from different segments of society.

Speaking on the issue of undertrials, President Murmu said the issue is one which is "close to my heart". She said a large number of people languish for years in prisons as undertrials, and the prisons are overcrowded, making their lives more difficult.

The President also drew attention to the issue of litigants not receiving "justice in the true sense", even after favorable judgments. She voiced her belief that if there are no existing rules to address this concern, new rules should be established. President Murmu expressed her intention to forward this matter to the CJI.
