PM Modi call for the use of AI tools in Indian courtrooms

Prime Minister Modi called for the adoption of AI tools in the legal profession during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Gauhati High Court. Emphasizing the importance of AI, customary laws, and alternate dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms, he said in Hindi:

"We have to make courts easier for the general public through AI for the ease of justice."

One of the most significant impacts of AI in the judicial system is its ability to streamline legal research and case management. With vast amounts of legal data, precedents, and documents to sift through, AI-powered tools can analyze and process information at an unprecedented speed. This enables judges, lawyers, and legal professionals to access the most relevant information in a fraction of the time it would take through traditional methods.

From document review to drafting legal documents, AI-driven tools can automate many routine tasks, freeing up time for legal professionals to focus on more critical aspects of their work. This not only improves efficiency but also reduces the likelihood of human errors that may arise from tedious and repetitive tasks.

Alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation and arbitration, can benefit from AI technology. AI can facilitate negotiations and settlements by analyzing data from previous cases to suggest potential resolutions, reducing the time and costs associated with lengthy court battles.
