Plea Filed in Ajmer Court Seeks Declaration of Ajmer Dargah as Shiva Temple

A civil suit has been filed in the Ajmer District Court, claiming that the Ajmer Dargah in Rajasthan stands on the site of a former Shiva temple, which should be recognized as Bhagwan Shri Sankatmochan Mahadev Virajman temple.

The suit, brought by Hindu Sena President Vishnu Gupta through his advocate Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh, seeks the removal of the Dargah committee's alleged unauthorized occupation of the premises.

The plea has also requested the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct a detailed survey of the site. The Ajmer Dargah, known as the tomb of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, has been cited by Gupta, who argues that the design of the roof at the main entrance gate resembles a Hindu structure, indicating its original use as a temple.

The case is slated for a hearing on October 10.

"The materials and the style of these chatrees plaintly betray their Hindu origin. Their excellent surgace carving is unfortunately hidden from view of coats of colour and whitewashing, which can showcases its true identity and reality after its removal."

It is further argued that there is no evidence to suggest that the Ajmer Dargah was built on vacant land. On the contrary, historical records indicate the presence of a Mahadeva temple and Jain temples at the site, where Hindu devotees were engaged in worship.

As a result, the suit seeks directions from the Union government to reconstruct the Bhagwan Shri Sankatmochan Mahadev Temple on the disputed property.
