Today, the Bombay High Court seeks to get a response from the State Government after a PIL was filed in the Bombay High Court to allow Vehicles to get parked under the Bridges and the flyovers.
The dual bench of the Bombay High Court issued a notice to the State Government to provide proper parking facilities and proper safety below the flyovers and bridges in the State.
The petition was filed by Pradeep Bais through Adv. Uday Warunjikar in which he has mentioned that spaces below bridges and flyovers were used as parking spaces until 2008 but in the year 2009, Maharashtra Regional Town Planning (MRTP) restricted citizens to park their vehicles under bridges and flyovers in case of availability of alternative parking spaces within 200 metres.
However, it did not put any restrictions on parking under bridges and flyovers in the event alternative parking was not available within 200 metres. Hence, he filed the petition to implement the 2009 orders by allowing parking in vacant spaces under bridges and flyovers when there are no alternative parking spaces within 200 metres.
The petitioner also mentioned that the population of the state is increasing day by day and it’s very difficult to park vehicles in the Metro cities like Mumbai. He also contended that a proper parking facility will increase revenue to the government exchequer from parking fees as well as tenders and government contracts.
