Petition Filed in SC Seeking Litigants' Access to Virtual Hearings via Mobile App

A petition has been submitted to the Supreme Court, seeking permission for litigants to access virtual court hearings via the Court's mobile application.

When the case was brought up for hearing on Monday, a Bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, postponed the matter to October 18.

"I will take stock of the situation," the CJI said while adjourning the case.

Last month, the same Bench had notably dismissed a plea requesting the setup of virtual hearing or video conference facilities in district courts nationwide. Last October, the CJI remarked that courts should not adopt technology merely at his urging.

However, earlier in May, he had stressed the importance of the judiciary and judges embracing technology for the benefit of litigants.
