In the aftermath of a tragic car accident in Pune claiming the lives of two young software engineers, the parents of the deceased, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, are urging for a thorough investigation and fair trial. They are advocating for the Supreme Court's oversight of the case and requesting that the trial be conducted in their home state rather than in Maharashtra.
Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh, lost their lives on May 19 when a speeding Porsche, allegedly driven by a 17-year-old, collided with their motorcycle in Pune. Ashwini was from Jabalpur, while Anish hails from Birsinghpur Pali in Umaria district.
Expressing their grief, Suresh Kumar Koshta, Ashwini's father, emphasized the need for the Supreme Court's monitoring to ensure justice. He also stressed that, considering the severity of the offense, the accused should be treated as an adult, disputing the minor status conferred upon him. Koshta alleged that the accused was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
The teenager initially received bail from the Juvenile Justice Board, sparking public outcry and prompting a review. Subsequently, the board remanded him to an observation home. Notably, the police have also apprehended the teenager's father.
Anish's father, Om Prakash Awadhiya, vowed relentless pursuit of justice. He echoed the demand for the trial to take place in Madhya Pradesh, citing concerns over impartiality. Awadhiya criticized the preferential treatment accorded to the accused despite lacking a driving license and advocated for the incident to be treated as a double homicide.
