A recent development related to the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the victim's parents have approached the Calcutta High Court, challenging the ongoing CBI investigation and demanding a fresh inquiry into the case.
While the trial against the main accused, Sanjoy Roy, is currently underway in the trial court, two other individuals involved in the alleged cover-up conspiracy, including former principal Sandip Ghosh, have been granted bail. This was due to the CBI's failure to file a chargesheet against them within the required 90-day period.
Earlier, following the incident, the victim's parents had approached the Calcutta High Court, challenging the State police's investigation, which was subsequently transferred to the CBI. The CBI had been submitting regular status updates to the Supreme Court as well.
The parent's present plea was mentioned before Justice Tirthankar Ghosh, who directed for it to be listed on Monday.
