P. S. Raman appointed as Advocate General of Tamil Nadu

Senior Advocate PS Raman is poised to assume the role of Advocate General of Tamil Nadu. The announcement came swiftly on Wednesday, mere hours after the incumbent, R Shunmugasundaram, tendered his resignation, citing personal reasons.

Born on November 7, 1960, PS Raman boasts an impressive legal career spanning over 39 years. He is well-regarded for his versatility, displaying expertise in various legal domains, including constitutional, civil, commercial, criminal, property laws, indirect tax, and intellectual property matters. Raman's legal acumen was officially recognized when he was named Senior Advocate of the Madras High Court in September 2004. His recent appointment as Special Senior Counsel further underscores his capability to handle sensitive cases on behalf of Tamil Nadu.

This won't be Raman's first foray into the role of Advocate General; he previously held the position between 2009 and 2011 during the M Karunanidhi government. His wealth of experience and comprehensive understanding of the legal landscape positions him as a valuable asset for the state.

Raman's father, V P Raman, has also left an indelible mark in the legal arena, having served as the Advocate General of the state and as an additional solicitor-general of India. Following in his father's footsteps, Raman has practiced law in both the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court of India, earning the designation of Senior Advocate in September 2004.
