Today, the Punjab and Haryana High Court conducted a hearing regarding Lawrence Bishnoi's interview case.
As a result, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising three members was formed by the High Court to delve into the details of the interview. The government promptly submitted a list of officers proposed to be part of the SIT, including DGP Human Rights Prabodh Kumar, AIG Dr. S Rahul, and Nilambari Jagdale.
Advocate Tanu Bedi, providing assistance to the High Court in this case, expressed concerns about the interview's impact on the youth. They highlighted that the interview seems to glorify Lawrence Bishnoi, potentially influencing many young individuals. Within the interview, Bishnoi appears to justify the acts of murder, shedding light on flaws within the prison system and raising several critical questions.
The High Court emphasized Punjab's status as a border state, stressing that the region's law and order directly affect national security. Consequently, the court issued an order for the removal of the interview from the website. Additionally, the court suggested that effective, functioning body scanners within jails and fortified prison walls could significantly contribute to improving the situation, hinting at their potential to make a substantial difference.
The High Court strongly criticized the government for its incomplete installation of jammers in jails, questioning the prolonged avoidance of responsibility. Despite the absence of audio recording in the CCTV footage, the court raised pertinent queries. Consequently, the High Court swiftly mandated the immediate installation of body scanners, CCTV systems, and jammers to address these pressing concerns.
