The Orissa High Court, exercising its authority under Section 16 of the Advocates Act and Rule 7(1) of the High Court of Orissa (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2019, designated 13 Advocates as Senior Advocates on Wednesday, January 15.

It is noteworthy that Advocate Bansidhar Baug had previously challenged the withholding of his candidature by the Permanent Committee for the designation of Senior Advocates, constituted under Rule 3 of the 2019 Rules. In September last year, the High Court granted Advocate Bansidhar Baug relief, ruling that the Permanent Committee lacks the jurisdiction to withhold, eliminate, or defer the candidature of any Advocate without forwarding their name to the Full Court for consideration.
