The ex-girlfriend of a law student, who tragically fell to his death from the seventh floor of an apartment building in Noida on Saturday, has been arrested in connection with an abetment to suicide case. She was later granted bail by the court.
According to police sources, 23-year-old Tapas, an LLB student at Amity University, died by suicide after his ex-girlfriend refused to reconcile with him. When police informed the court that Tapas's friends had attempted to convince his ex-girlfriend to reunite with him, but she declined, the court ruled that this did not constitute abetment to suicide and granted her bail.
Reports indicate that Tapas and his ex-girlfriend were classmates at Amity University. They began living together early in their relationship, but recently they had a falling out, with the woman deciding to end things. Although Tapas wanted to reconcile, she refused.
On Saturday, Tapas, who lived in Ghaziabad, visited a friend's home at Supreme Towers in Noida’s Sector 99. His friends had invited his ex-girlfriend in an attempt to convince her to get back together with him. After attending the gathering, she told Tapas that she was not interested in reconciling. Distraught, Tapas then jumped from the seventh floor, leading to his tragic death. Tapas’s family subsequently filed a police complaint, accusing his ex-girlfriend of harassment, prompting the registration of the abetment to suicide case. Noida police have stated they are investigating the incident from all angles.
