Nirav Modi denied permission to appeal in UK Supreme Court in extradition appeal

Fugitive Dimond Merchant Nirav Modi suffered a jolt in the UK on Thursday in his legal battle when he was denied leave to appeal before the Supreme Court of the UK in his extradition case on the charges of fraud and money laundering.

Justice Jeremy Stuart-Smith and Justice Robert Jay of the Royal Courts of Justice in London held that the Appellant's application for permission to appeal to the Supreme Court is refused." With this, the application of Nirav Modi for certification of a point of law was also rejected by the court ruling that the "Certification of the point of law be refused."

Had that been permitted or allowed, Nirav Modi could have appealed before the UK Supreme Court, leaving him almost helpless in the legal battle in the UK.

The Court also directed the conman to pay £150,247 (Rs. One crore 52 lakh in Indian rupees) in the legal fees associated with the latest application. 

It was argued by Modi that there is a higher chance of suicide of he is extradited. but the court refused the argument and said that it "will enable the authorities to cope properly with Mr. Modi's condition."
