The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on Uttar Pradesh for failing to submit a compliance report in a case concerning the restoration of Sadar Talab, a pond in Kadaura Nagar Panchayat, Jalaun district.
During the hearing on December 20, the bench, comprising Judicial Member Justice Sudhir Agarwal and Expert Member A Senthil Vel, noted that none of the parties, including respondents from the Nagar Panchayat Kadaura and the state government, had filed the required report as directed in September.
The tribunal ordered the imposition of the fine, allowing the respondents to file their reply within a month. Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh State Pollution Control Board was granted two more weeks to submit its reply after paying a Rs 5,000 fine, as its previous response was deemed unsatisfactory.
The matter is scheduled for hearing on February 7, 2025.
