The 3rd National Lok Adalat of 2024 is scheduled for September 14th, offering a unified platform for swift dispute resolution across the country.
Organized under the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and led by Hon’ble Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Judge of the Supreme Court and Executive Chairman of NALSA, the event will be held simultaneously across multiple locations, making justice more accessible and efficient.
Lok Adalats, established under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, and governed by the National Legal Services Authority (Lok Adalats) Regulations, 2009, serve as a crucial alternative dispute resolution mechanism. Their role is to provide a cost-effective, amicable, and final resolution for various civil, criminal, and revenue disputes. Cases that can be addressed include motor accident claims, cheque bounce cases, matrimonial disputes (excluding divorce), labour matters, and others, both pre-litigation and pending.
This year's National Lok Adalat aims to continue the success seen in previous sessions, where millions of cases were resolved. The 1st and 2nd National Lok Adalats of 2024 alone settled over 540 lakh cases, alleviating pressure on traditional courts. With participation from 27 states and union territories, the upcoming event reaffirms NALSA's commitment to delivering timely justice and reducing the backlog of cases in the judicial system.
While most states will host the event on September 14th, others will organize it later, following the Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam festivals. Through such initiatives, NALSA ensures that the Indian justice system remains equitable and accessible to all.
