Mumbai Court Extends Police Custody of Mohammed Shariful Islam, Accused in Saif Ali Khan Attack, Until January 29

A Mumbai court on Friday extended the police custody of Mohammed Shariful Islam, the man accused in the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, until January 29.

Islam, who has been in custody since January 19, was arrested for allegedly attacking Khan during a failed robbery attempt at his Bandra residence on January 16.

The Bandra Court, noting significant progress in the investigation, granted the extension of custody after Islam's initial five-day remand concluded. The court also instructed the Mumbai police to explore other critical aspects of the case.

The police sought the extension, citing the possibility of other accomplices and Islam’s non-cooperation in locating the weapon used in the stabbing.

Islam, who is believed to be a Bangladeshi national, reportedly tried to rob Khan's home. During a confrontation, he allegedly stabbed the actor multiple times, injuring his thoracic spine and other parts of his body. Khan was later hospitalized at Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was discharged on January 21.
