According to Media Reports, the Central Government is going to appoint Mukul Rohatgi the next Attorney General of India who will succeed KK Venugopal. Mukul Rohatgi is the Ex-attorney General of India who served in the office of AG from 19 June 2014 to 18 June 2017. It is also noteworthy that Mr. KK Venugopal succeeded Mukul Rohatgi in the office in the year 2017.
Mukul Rohatgi is one of the top advocates of the Country who was designated as Senior Advocate on 03 June 1993 by the Delhi High Court. Mukul Rohatgi also remained Additional Solicitor General of India in 1999 during Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government.
After Mukul Rohatgi’s last tenure KK Venugopal was appointed as Attorney General for a period of three years and then he was given 2 years extension but he had expressed his unwillingness to get a further extension due to his age and health condition. Mr. Venugopal had told a bench of the Supreme Court last week that 30th September is the last date in his office as AG.
It is also learnt that Mr. Rohatgi was not too curious to accept the post but he got a call from Prime Minister’s Office. Mukul Rohatgi is 67 years and initially, he would be given a tenure of 3 years.
