MP Prajwal Revanna Seeks Anticipatory Bail in Bengaluru Court Amid Sexual Abuse Allegations

Suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna approaches the Bengaluru Court seeking anticipatory bail in three cases linked to allegations of sexual abuse against him. The Court, which issued a notice to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the accusations, heard Revanna's counsel's intentions to prioritize submissions on his interim bail applications.

Revanna, who has been evading arrest for weeks, fled the country after over 2,900 videos depicting the sexual assault of numerous women surfaced on social media.

"Accordingly, call on 31.05.2024," the Court ordered.

According to recent news reports, Revanna is anticipated to return to India today, and the investigating agency is preparing to apprehend him in connection with the case. In a video released on Monday, Revanna announced his intention to return to India. The Karnataka government had previously written to the Centre requesting the cancellation of the MP's diplomatic passport.

On April 28, an FIR was filed against Prajwal Revanna and his father HD Revanna at the Holenaraseepur town police station in Hassan district. The FIR charged them under Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (insult to the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

HD Revanna was previously granted bail by the Special Court in the case, but the SIT has contested this decision by approaching the Karnataka High Court, as reported on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Prajwal Revanna, who is contesting as the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA)'s Lok Sabha candidate in the ongoing General Elections, remains implicated in the case.
