MP High Court Allows 17-Year-Old to Donate Liver to Father

The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court granted permission on Thursday for a liver transplant surgery involving a 17-year-old girl and her ailing father, Shivnarayan Batham (42), a farmer from rural Indore.

Batham had petitioned the court, seeking approval for his daughter Preeti to donate a portion of her liver to him.

During the hearing before Justice Vishal Mishra, the state government's counsel informed the court that a medical board had assessed Preeti's health and determined her suitability as a donor. Relying on this report, the court granted Batham's request and instructed that the transplant procedure proceed promptly with all necessary precautions.

According to Batham's lawyer, Nilesh Manore, his client has been battling a severe liver ailment for six years and his eldest daughter, Preeti, who will turn 18 on July 31, has volunteered to be his donor.

“Batham's father is 80 years old while his wife is a diabetic patient. So his daughter came forward to donate part of the liver to him so that she could save the life of his ailing father," Manore said.

“I’m proud of my daughter,” Batham said.
