The Madras High Court Advocate's Association (MHCAA) has unanimously decided to boycott court proceedings on July 8 to protest against the implementation of the three new criminal laws.
A resolution passed by the MHCAA on Friday urged all members to comply with the decision and refrain from participating in any court-related activities on July 8. It emphasized that their support and cooperation are crucial for the success of this initiative.
"This collective action underscores our strong opposition to the changes that we believe undermine the principles of justice and fairness in our legal system. It is crucial that we stand united in this protest to make our voices heard and effect meaningful change," the resolution said.
The three new criminal laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively, and came into force on July 1.
