Marathon hearing in Supreme Court; Bench No.2 sits till 9:10 PM

In a historic, the bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli concluded the business for the day till 9:10 in the night. The hearing of the cases started at 10:30 in the morning and the bench sat till 9:10 PM to hear all the cases. Today total of 76 cases were listed before the bench. Justice Chandrachud had made it clear in the morning itself that today he is going to sit late in the evening and hear all the cases and not going to adjourn cases. It is the last day of hearing of the cases before Dussehra Vacation.

The normal working time of the Supreme Court is from 1030 AM to 04:00 pm in the evening. Justice Chandrachud made a statement a few days ago that we have to change the "Tarikh pe Tarikh" concept of the Supreme Court." "Lawyers complain that matters are not listed, but seek an adjournment when their cases come up," the judge stated, adding that adjournment can be sought only on account of COVID-19 or bereavement in the family, and not otherwise."

Justice Chandrachud is going to the next Chief Justice of India after the retirement of the present Chief Justice of India on 08th November 2022.
