An accused of involvement in the international conspiracy behind the Manipur violence filed a bail plea in the Patiala House Court. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) opposed the bail plea of the accused and argued that the accused Moirangthem Anand Singh had links with banned organizations.
Additional Sessions Judge Sachin Gupta listed the case for further hearing on November 8. The agency argued that he was arrested along with his associates in the conflict-affected area of Manipur with sophisticated arms and ammunition.
The counsel appearing for the agency said that the accused are members of terrorist organizations operating in the north-eastern Indian states to take advantage of the ongoing ethnic unrest in the state of Manipur to wage war against the Indian government and carry out terrorist attacks there. Was involved in an international conspiracy hatched by the local leadership.
The agency argued that if the accused was released on bail, it would create problems in the ongoing investigation. The agency argued that considering the history of the accused, there was a high probability that he would again indulge in similar activities which would worsen the current security situation in the state.
The accused is currently in judicial custody. More than 180 people have been killed and several hundred injured in the caste violence that began on May 3 in Manipur.
