Man appeared in ‘Banyan’ in Supreme Court, Justice B.V. Nagarathna Expresses Displeasure

Today, on July 8th, the High Court and Supreme Court encountered numerous cases that not only captivate the public but also leave judges astounded. These cases often dominate headlines for extended periods. Occasionally, the nature of these cases compels judges to voice their displeasure, particularly when courtroom decorum is compromised. A notable instance of this occurred on Monday when a Supreme Court judge was visibly upset by a man’s inappropriate attire during a virtual court session.

The incident took place in Court 11 on Monday. A man, participating via video conferencing, appeared on screen wearing a vest. The moment Justice B.V. Nagarathna noticed him, her displeasure was evident.

She immediately inquired, "Who is this person in a vest? Is he a party to the case or what?" Justice Nagarathna's irritation escalated as she demanded, "Remove him immediately. How can this be allowed?" She then instructed the court master, "Please take him off the call."

This incident is not isolated. The Supreme Court has previously witnessed judges expressing their dissatisfaction over inappropriate attire during virtual hearings. In 2020, a lawyer attended a virtual hearing without a shirt, prompting a stern reaction from the bench.
