The Madras High Court on Tuesday withdrew its previous comments made against Senior Advocate and DMK MP P Wilson, who was accused of seeking the recusal of a judge during a hearing last month.
The division bench of Justices R Subramanian and L Victoria Gowri, of the Madurai bench, stated that a memo had clarified it was never the intention of Wilson or his legal team to ask for a recusal. The court accepted the submission, recalling the earlier order partially and deleting the remarks against Wilson.
Additionally, the court acknowledged that the Tamil Nadu police’s Cyber Crime unit had initiated a probe to trace the source of a leaked video from the court's hybrid hearing. Justice Subramanian noted that an investigation was underway to identify how the video was recorded and circulated on social media, and steps were being taken to prevent further illegal broadcasting of court proceedings.
The court’s decision came after Senior Advocate and Bar Council of India Vice-Chairman S Prabakaran, representing the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, clarified that Wilson had not disrespected the court but had merely presented facts provided by his client.
