Madras HC Warns Dismissal in Jaggi Vasudev's Isha Foundation Missing Person Case

The Madras High Court issued a warning on Thursday, stating that if the petitioner, who filed a case claiming the disappearance of his brother against Jaggi Vasudev's Isha Foundation, fails to attend the court hearing, the case will be dismissed.

The bench observed that C Thirumalai, the petitioner who lodged the Habeas Corpus petition following his brother's disappearance, was absent during the day's court session.

The bench scheduled the case for further review on June 7, emphasizing that it would be the final opportunity for the petitioner to appear. In the meantime, the Tamil Nadu Police informed the Court on Thursday that they are actively investigating the case.

The Police requested an extension to submit a status report on the case. Additional Public Prosecutor E Raj Thilakavadi informed a bench comprising Justices MS Ramesh and Sunder Mohan that the State police had interrogated 36 individuals, including employees and volunteers at the Isha Yoga Centre. However, they required additional time to compile and file a comprehensive status report.

In the previous month, the Tamil Nadu Police informed the bench that a total of six individuals have been reported missing from the Isha Foundation since 2016. This disclosure was made verbally during the hearing regarding Thirumalai's Habeas Corpus petition.

Thirumalai brought the matter to the Court's attention following the disappearance of Ganesan, aged 46, from the Isha Foundation in March of the previous year. Thirumalai informed the Court that despite his efforts to reach his brother, he had been unable to establish contact for several days, prompting him to approach the Isha Foundation for assistance.

However, the Foundation only informed him that his brother, who was employed at the ashram, had not reported for duty for two days. Consequently, Thirumalai filed a police complaint and later approached the High Court for further intervention.

During the previous hearing, the police informed the Court that individuals departing from the Foundation often did so voluntarily, implying that Ganesan's disappearance might have been of his own volition.
