Madras HC to rule on ED summons to District collectors, decision expected Tuesday

In a crucial legal development, the Madras High Court is poised to deliver its verdict on Tuesday regarding a petition filed by the Tamil Nadu government and five district collectors. The challenge centers around the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate, which is actively investigating allegations of illegal sand mining within the state.

The division bench, headed by Justices S S Sundar and Sundar Mohan, took a pivotal step on Monday by reserving its orders until November 28. This decision follows a comprehensive presentation of arguments by senior advocate Dushyant Dave, representing the state government, and Additional Solicitor General A R L Sunderesan, representing the Enforcement Directorate.

The petition, submitted by the Public Department Secretary of the state, K Nanthakumar, on behalf of the Collectors of Ariyalur, Vellore, Thanjavur, Karur, and Tiruchirapalli, seeks to nullify the Enforcement Directorate's summons. The summons requires the collectors to appear in person on specific dates and provide information regarding alleged illegal sand mining activities in their respective districts.

The impending verdict holds significant implications for the ongoing legal battle, as the decision on the petition challenging the Enforcement Directorate's summons is eagerly awaited. The outcome, scheduled to be announced on November 28, will determine the next course of action in the investigation into the alleged illegal sand mining in Tamil Nadu.
