Law Student Faces Judge's Rebuke for Taking a Sip of Water in Madhya Pradesh HC

A recently surfaced video clip reveals an incident in which a law student, seated in the visitor's gallery within the courtroom presided over by Justice Rohit Arya at the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Gwalior Bench, was denied the opportunity to drink water from his own bottle.

The judge, displeased by the boldness of a student who dared to take a sip of water from his personal bottle, swiftly interrogated the student. After this incident, the student faced the judge's interrogation regarding his identity and actions.

The judge questioned the student about his identity and origin, discovering that the individual was a law student from the prestigious National Law University, Patiala, attending the court for the first time as part of an internship. Justice Arya then admonished him for considering his act of taking a sip of water as a violation of courtroom etiquette.

The judge further questioned if the student was unfamiliar with the fundamental etiquette expected while seated in a courtroom.

Justice Arya declared that his courtroom was not a cafeteria, emphasizing that he had previously conveyed to attendees multiple times that having water or coffee inside the courtroom was not permitted.

"You cannot just open your bottle and drink water here. If you need to do so, go outside and have your water," he said.

The student quickly offered a sincere apology in response to the judge's admonishment.
