Kochi Waste Plant Smoke | Kerala High Court appoints committee to monitor the issue

Recently, the High Court of Kerala appointed a committee to monitor the situation of Kochi Waste Plant Smoke. The Committee includes the Ernakulam district collector, Pollution Control Board officials and the secretary of the Kerala State Legal Services Authority. 

The division bench of justices S V Bhatti and Basant Balaji directed the state Chief Secretary to inform the court in detail about the steps taken by the government to tackle the issue. The Kerala High Court directed the state government to make a proper plan to resolve the issue. 

The member of the Pollution Control Board submitted that the situation at Brahmapuram is bad as the wind was blowing from the sea to the land area. During the hearing, the bench asked about the current situation and also noted that a lot of judges and the court staff suffered headaches due to the pollution in the air.

The Court also directed the state to take necessary steps to deal with the health issues arising out of the non-movement of waste from Kochi city. Meanwhile, Congress MLA Uma Thomas filed a plea in the High Court seeking to deploy a National Disaster Management Response Team at Brahmapuram.
