On Monday, the Kerala High Court approved bail for Greeshma, who is the main suspect in the murder case of Sharon Raj, a 23-year-old resident of Thiruvananthapuram.
In October 2022, Sharon Raj passed away due to organ failure. Accusations suggest that Greeshma, reportedly Sharon Raj's former romantic partner, allegedly caused Sharon's death through the administration of a toxic beverage.
Today, Justice Mohammad Nias CP issued the order granting bail to Greeshma.
The couple had crossed paths during their time as students at a private college in Kanyakumari. Sharon was pursuing radiology, while Greeshma was focused on studying literature.
As per the prosecution's account, Sharon and Greeshma had purportedly been in a romantic relationship for approximately one year. However, Greeshma desired to terminate the relationship because her family had arranged her marriage to another man. Allegedly, since Sharon was unwilling to accept the end of their relationship, Greeshma, along with her mother and uncle, conspired to poison him, according to the prosecution's allegations.
During Sharon's visit to Greeshma's residence in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, it is alleged that Greeshma provided him with a drink that was allegedly spiked with poison she had prepared. The prosecution further contends that Greeshma's mother and uncle were involved in the incident by concealing the bottle containing the poison.
Sharon Raj's health reportedly deteriorated rapidly in the following days, and on October 25, he tragically passed away due to multiple organ failure. Less than a week after his death, Greeshma was taken into custody. Subsequently, her mother and uncle were also arrested in connection with the case.
Greeshma's mother and uncle were eventually granted bail, allowing them to be released from custody. However, Greeshma herself had remained incarcerated.
In light of her situation, Greeshma sought bail by petitioning the High Court. Today, her request for bail was approved.
On a related matter, Justice PV Kunhikrishnan is currently handling a plea filed jointly by Greeshma, her mother, and her uncle. This plea challenges the Kerala trial court's decision not to transfer the case to Tamil Nadu, where it is argued that the court has territorial jurisdiction since the alleged crime occurred there.
Justice Kunhikrishnan has accepted the plea and issued an order to temporarily suspend the Kerala trial court's decision for a duration of three weeks.
