Kerala High Court alters dress code for women judicial officers

The Kerala High Court has updated its dress code for female judicial officers in the state. In addition to the previously required saree and blouse, these officers now have the choice to wear salwar kameez or a blouse/shirt with full-length trousers or skirts.

The attire must continue to adhere to black and white colors and should maintain a "modest and simple" style that reflects the dignity expected of a judicial officer.

According to the circular issued by the High Court on October 7, the adjustment to the dress code guidelines was implemented with the aim of alleviating the challenges faced by female judicial officers, which stem from the fluctuating climate conditions and deficiencies in court infrastructure.

The following are the details of the attire now permitted for female judicial officers:

  1. White saree with a black collar blouse, featuring full or half sleeves and either stiff or soft bands and collars, complemented by a black gown as needed.

  2. White salwar suit with either full or half sleeves, featuring a high neck or collar, along with either a white or black kameez that has a modest fit and covers the ankles. This ensemble should also include a black full-sleeved coat or a black vest with either soft or stiff collars and bands, and a gown as required.

  3. White full-sleeved blouse or shirt with a high neck and collar, combined with modest full ankle-length trousers or skirts in black. Additionally, this outfit should include either soft or stiff collars and bands, a black full-sleeved coat or a black vest with a soft or stiff collar and bands, and a gown as needed.
