Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approached the Supreme Court to request a one-week extension of his interim bail in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.
A Bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta had granted interim bail to the then-jailed Delhi Chief Minister on May 10, allowing him temporary release until June 1 in the money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Kejriwal has now requested that his interim bail be extended by a week, until June 8, to allow him to undergo some medical tests.
The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) investigation into Kejriwal originates from a case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2022, based on a complaint filed by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
It has been alleged that a criminal conspiracy was hatched by AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and others, to create loopholes in the Delhi Excise Policy of 2021-22 to benefit certain liquor sellers.
On May 10, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Kejriwal until June 1 to allow him to campaign for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. On May 17, the Supreme Court reserved its verdict on Kejriwal's plea for permanent bail.
